Mike Schwabe and Phil Lach started 1848 Custom Boards in 2022.

After working together for over 20 years in the technology field and having both retired; woodworking became an enjoyable way to spend some time together creating one-of-a-kind pieces.

All their work is hand crafted in the state of Wisconsin, hence “1848 Custom Boards”; the year Wisconsin was admitted to the Union.

Mike & Phil make custom laser engraved pieces using wood they have sourced from all over Wisconsin; from old barns to distilleries they have found native wood as well as exotic wood. Some of these unique products include end grain cutting boards, engraved wood and slate coasters sets, custom engraved wood clocks, and other products made to customer’s requirements. Phil, as an avid SASS member wanted to identify his shooting cart with a little style. Thus, the idea of adding authorized SASS engraved items to our specialized product line of laser engraved, handcrafted wood cutting boards, plaques, and coasters was born. We will donate $2.00 to the SASS Scholarship Foundation for each and any SASS products purchased as a way ensure the viability of SASS.
